TOUCH HISTORY

In December of 2004, Nina Thomas had a vision. A vision of an organization that would not just help children, but uplift the family as a whole. This began the design of an organization. Putting the plan together first, Ms. Thomas did not know what to call the organization. After many tries and nights of prayer, Ms. Thomas came up with TOUCH. This was even before she knew what it would mean, only knowing that her goal was to touch others in a powerful way. Within the same five minutes, Touching Others Using Christ Help came to mind, keeping TOUCH as the short name.  On January 1, 2005 Ms. Thomas called 5 close relatives to help her build this foundation. On January 10, 2006 TOUCH was incorporated.

Although TOUCH will not have any foundations until the conclusion of a successful effort to raise necessary capital, TOUCH is currently providing community service in the Chicago-land area. Some of the events TOUCH has participated in include Misericordia (Heart of Mercy) Candy day’s fundraiser, Bi-Monthly teen talks, Englewood community walk to stop the violence, clean out your closet clothes drive, and the city of Chicago annual unity walk. Among these events TOUCH participates and supports other community projects to help build a stronger city as a whole.

In August 2007, all board members that have been working with TOUCH since 2005 were let go. Each member was given the option to re-interview for a position on the board. The purpose for this action is to reorganize the organization and move towards getting more programs up and running. The board did consist of majority family members and is now being stretched to other business owners, volunteers and community organizers. Organizations go through many changes and this is one change TOUCH was in need of. Programs slowed down and the organization was not moving forward. This is an organization that is built for the community and by community leaders.

As of now, TOUCH is preparing for programs for children, youth and families for the 2008 year. TOUCH is continuing to raise money that is needed for our tax exempt status and for future programs.

Upon receiving the necessary capital TOUCH will open a family center which will contain an early learning center, a youth department, and adult support services. In the future TOUCH will expand and provide transitional homes as well as services for the elderly.
